The Government of Kenya has withdrawn the security offers attached to Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama.
The move comes shortly after he renewed vigour to campaign for NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
In a statement, Mr Nyagarama said: “I have learnt that the Government has recalled all the security officers attached to offer protection to me and my family as the duly elected Governor of Nyamira County. No explanation has been given for the sudden withdrawal.”
Stressing that he was not bitter over the government’s decision to withdraw his security detail, Mr Nyagarama promised to continue discharging his duties as the duly elected Governor of Nyamira County.
“I urge the people of Nyamira and the whole nation of Kenya to continue praying for harmony and peace in this trying moments as a nation. I hope that one day, the will of the people and the fidelity to the Constitution and respect to the rule of law will be respected.”
Reacting to the news, Commandare Nyambega Gisesa said Mr Nyagarama’s security was withdrawn after President Uhuru Kenyatta “made demands to him to quit ODM and join Jubilee which he gladly declined.”
He added: “This kind of political intimidation should never be allowed. They can push him to the wall, but he will never waiver in his quest to see a change of leadership in this country in which the economy is heading the Zimbabwe way. We will continue to protect the Governor as his supporters.”
Mr Gisesa told Mr Kenyatta that “the Governor will never succumb to the temptation of bitterness.”
